Deerfield Beach, Florida – November 15, 2011. First three water purification systems donated by Western Sales, a division of Mission Support, arrive in Florida. The 1,500 gallon-per-day systems are the first three of potentially 60 systems to be donated by Western Sales over a period of time.
The systems include pre-filtration to remove sediments; water softening; carbon filtration to improve taste and odor and remove organics and reverse osmosis and UV disinfection to make sure the water is completely sterile before it is used. They are equipped with pumps and automatic switch controls for the systems to shut off automatically when not in use or when the storage tank is full. The systems are mounted inside a closed, weatherproofed cabinet and are ready to be hooked up to a power supply and a source of water. Capable of producing 1,500 gallons of high-grade purified water per day the systems are perfect for a small hospital, clinic, school or orphanage.
WWIF will work closely with Safe Water Team, a Michigan nonprofit, to find homes for the systems and to raise additional funds for transport, installation and maintenance. WWIF will also look for partners wanting to fund their own water treatment projects. In such cases, WWIF will transfer the assets and use the funds to acquire Hydraid systems from the different distribution centers operated by Safe Water Systems in Kenya, Ghana, Dominican Republic, Haiti and Honduras.
The systems are valued at $12,000 to $15,000 each, and if all the systems are delivered, the total donation could be valued at $900,000. This is a major contribution to the Foundation. If the Foundation were to raise that amount of money, it would be able to provide clean, safe drinking water for over 60,000 people.
WWIF is working on a plan to accept equipment from water industry professionals to either install where needed or to raise funds to distribute more Hydraid systems. One Hydraid filter provides enough clean safe drinking water for a family of five.
We are very thankful to Western Sales and its principals for such a generous donation and look forward to working with them in the future. Western Sales has been listed as A Platinum Sponsor on the Foundation’s website.
