Deerfield Beach, Florida – March 14, 2012. 1st Annual Golf Tournament a success: Wind blasted for a good cause. The golf tournament started as planned at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, March 6, in spite of high winds with gusts up to 70 mph. It was windy at tee-off time and no one really expected it to get much worse; however, by 4 pm, the wind was so strong, we were all getting pushed around and sand blasted. One good thing: any slices (and there were many) were blamed on the wind, so everyone just relaxed and had a good time. By 4:30 pm it was so bad that a few teams requested we take the scores after 9 holes and call it a day. Word got out to everyone except two teams who made it to the clubhouse after most of the players had left and the awards distributed. (Sorry guys, we did try to get you back in)
First Place awards went to: John Heurkins, Brian Good, Pat Dalee and Dennis Roberts. Rob Anderson grabbed Longest Putt and Longest Drive honors. Closest to the Pin was awarded to Sid Fly.
Funds were raised from registration fees and sponsorships. A total of 30 players signed up for the tournament, all from various companies throughout the US. In addition, we had sponsors for every hole (19 in total) as well as sponsors for the tournament, beverages food, a ball sponsor, plus all the award categories. Sponsors are recognized on a previous posting on Facebook and will be recognized in the follow up issue of the show in Water Conditioning & Purification, International (WC&P).
The event raised enough money to impact over 100 families who currently lacking clean safe drinking water. That is 400 to 500 people impacted by the generosity of WQA members.
The event will never be forgotten by those who participated. No one has ever played in such adverse conditions and will never do it again, unless it’s for a worthy cause. Everyone talked about the weather, which made national news that day.
We thank all the players, the sponsors and the volunteers who donated their time to make sure the event was a success. “I am very proud of everyone who participated in the tournament and I look forward to seeing you at the next event in Indianapolis, IN in April 2013. The event will be bigger, better and by then, our efforts will be as An Industry.” Guillermo Guzman, Founder.
