WWIF sent a batch of Hydraid® Biosand filters to run several pilot operations in rural areas in South Africa. The filters were shipped aboard a US Navy ship under Project Handclasp, a humanitarian project designed to reach areas in need of supplies and aid from US companies.

The systems will reach South Africa in February of 2010 and will be delivered to the Simonstown Naval Base. US Navy personnel will clear the goods and relinquish them to H2O International South Africa for delivery to the pilot areas. Monitoring will be performed by students from local Universities under the supervision of H2O International SA.
